The eccentric casing drill system is an economical solution because of its clever eccentric block design that allows the entire tool system to continue to be used in the next hole. The eccentric casing drill system is an economical solution because of its clever eccentric block design that allows the entire tool system to continue to be used in the next hole. The system is particularly suitable for drilling shallow holes, such as water well boreholes, geothermal wells and shallow micro-piling works. The components of an eccentric system are a pilot bit, a reamer bit (eccentric block), a guide and a pipe shoe.
When drilling, the reamer bit rotates out to expand the diameter of the hole being drilled, allowing the casing to slide behind the reamer bit into the hole. When the required drilling depth is reached, the drill pipe rotates in the opposite direction and the reamer bit shrinks, allowing the entire drilling system to pass through the casing and eventually take out.
